Improving the Accuracy of Determining the Boundaries of an Object in Subsurface Sensing

ABSTRACT

A possibility has been experimentally shown of improving the accuracy of determining the subsurface inhomogeneity boundaries when sensing at depths of up to 10 m using the signals with a linear FM carrier frequency in a range up to 200 MHz. It was achieved through the compensation of dispersive properties of soils and by using the spectral methods of estimating echo-signals with a high frequency (depth) resolution. The experiments were conducted on a land plot with an artificially created subsurface layer at a depth of 1 m using the experimental breadboard model of a ground penetrating radar with a linear FM signal.
