A COMPACT SLOT ANTENNA FOR ULTRA-WIDEBAND APPLICATIONS

A Compact slot antenna for Ultra-Wideband applications is designed and investigated. The overall volume of the structure has a compact size of 14*18*1.6 mm3 and is etched out on low-cost (FR4) flame retardant substrate with εr = 4.4 and 0.025 dielectric loss. Return loss (magnitude of S11 < -10 dB) of the structure is 3.112-10.75 GHz with the fractional bandwidth of 110%. The simulated result shows that for the proposed structure the maximum gain is 2.2 decibels with maximum radiation efficiency equal to 69%. The presented compact antenna with good radiation pattern satisfies the monopole characteristics. Measured and simulated Copol. and Cross(X)-pol. are in relatively good agreement at the selected operating frequencies. Lower and higher modes are achieved by making a modified patch and perfect matching is achieved by cutting rectangular slots in a partial ground plane. All these properties show that the proposed structure finds its application in 3.5-5.5 GHz (WiMAX), 5.2-5.8 GHz (WLAN) along with various applications in the wireless communication field.
