Reducing the Effect of Cathode Ion Bombardment on Performance Characteristics of Microwave Vacuum Tubes

ABSTRACT

Considered is a possible way of lowering the effect of ion bombardment on cathode performance in microwave vacuum tubes through changing the emitting surface geometry in the electron gun. Results of experimental studies of clinotrons are given, i.e., electrovacuum devices with an extended wave-particle interaction in the millimeter and submillimeter waveband employing ribbon electron beams which confirms the feasibility of improving output characteristics of the devices with such cathodes.
