Diffraction Radiation Oscillators for CW and Pulsed Operation

ABSTRACT

We review the thirty-year work for the development of a diffraction radiation oscillator (DRO) of package construction in CW and pulsed operation. Data are presented for a mid-power DRO series which completely covers the wave range λ =0.8... 10mm with short-term frequency instability 10−10,and for a high-power DRO which is avalable for λ =3...8mm in self and non self-contained style. The possibility to add in the DRO performance through the expansion of the input power range is estimated. The real possibility for the development of a pulsed DRO with power output 1.3...10kW for λ =3...8mm is shown. The characteristics of a low-voltage DRO with input power less than 50W are given.
