Two Component Model of the Schumann Resonance Signal

ABSTRACT

The experimental Schumann resonance signal is shown to be a sum of two components: constant background and the variable part. The model of single moving source describes the alternating part of signal. It is associated with the motion of compact thunderstorm center around the Earth along the equator (and depends on the time). The background remains constant during the day, however it may vary with season. The contributions from these two components are estimated in the total intensity. The background intensity is shown to be of comparable level with that of varying part, therefore it must be incorporated into interpretation of experimental data. Seasonal variations are obtained for the background. Both the components have similar seasonal alterations, which indicates on a relationship in their origin.
