FERRITE: POTENTIAL NANO-MODIFIER FOR ROCKET PROPELLANTS

ABSTRACT

Composite solid propellants were prepared with nano-ferrites, where the nano-ferrites Zn, Mn, Ni, Co, and Cu were used as catalysts. The nano-ferrites were prepared using the chemical co-precipitation method. The catalytic properties of these nanomaterials were measured by thermogravimetric and differential thermal analyses on an ammonium perchlorate/hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene–based propellant. The experimental results showed an increase in the thermal decomposition of the propellants in the presence of nano-ferrites. The activation energy of the high-temperature decomposition step of the propellants was calculated using the Kissinger equation. The burning rates of the propellants were also measured.
