Influence of Zoobenthos on the Release of Phosphorus from Bottom Sediments into Water in Lake Biotopes
摘要
The influx of phosphorus through the "bottom-water" interface was measured in the experiments using both intact columns of bottom sediments and the columns inactivated with the solution of formaldehyde. The total influx of phosphorus in various lake biotopes ranged from —4.6 to 74.4 mg P/m2·day. The contribution of the biotic component to the total influx of phosphorus accounted for 22—86%. The intensity of phosphorus influx is conditioned by such factors as temperature, porosity of bottom sediments, and the numbers of the infauna. Under natural conditions, the calculated coefficients of phosphorus release ranged from 3.1·10—6 to 92.5·10—6 cm2/sec. They were 1.5—25.0 times higher than the standard value of diffusion.
