Boiling of Superheated w-Pentane on Nickel Powder

ABSTRACT

In the present work we investigate experimentally the boiling-up kinetics of superheated n-pentane on nickel powder. The technique of measuring mean times of the activation of boiling centers on a porous structure in a bubble chamber is used. We show that at atmospheric pressure on an extended surface it is possible to attain liquid superheats that are close to the limit of homogeneous nucleation. The similarity between the isobars of the mean times of activation is noted both in pure conditions and in the presence of nickel powder. A fluctuational mechanism of the boiling of superheated n-pentane of the surface of the granules of nickel powder is suggested.
