EFFECT OF OSCILLATING AIR JETS ON POLYMER DRAWING IN THE MELT BLOWING PROCESS
摘要
Melt blowing is a typical process for producing superfine fibers. Use of oscillating air jets can further reduce the fiber diameter. Our Lagrange-type polymer drawing model is employed to simulate the polymer drawing in the oscillating air flow field of the melt blowing process. The predicted fiber diameter of oscillating air jets tallies with the experimental data. The results show that the use of oscillating air jets usually can produce finer fibers compared with those obtained in the case of continuous air jets, which gives us valuable insights into the increase of the efficiency of melt blowing. Experimental results also show that submicron fibers can be produced by using oscillating air jets. If the oscillating technology of melt blowing is optimized, the fabrication of much finer nanofibers can be realized. The transverse displacement of the polymer melt is also predicted. The results show great prospects for this research in the optimization design of melt blowing technology with oscillating air jets.
