General Analysis of Isobaric Diffusion in Composite Ceramic Membranes with Inclusion of Axial Dispersion Coefficient

ABSTRACT

A generalized analysis of the isobaric diffusion process has been conducted by considering axial dispersion on both membrane sides, which is usually neglected while evaluating isobaric diffusion experiments. This analysis is based on the reduced form of the dusty gas model appropriate for the evaluation of isobaric diffusion process in membrane reactors. The component mass balances in the two gas compartments are calculated by including axial dispersion in terms of the Bodenstein number. The analysis shows that inclusion of axial dispersion in diffusion process is substantial, especially in the entrance of the reactor. Results of this analysis are presented in the form of dimensionless quantities solved by subsequent transformations.
