QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE INVESTIGATION OF SHOCK TUBE THERMAL DECOMPOSITION OF ACETYLENE

ABSTRACT

The results of studying the kinetics of formation of condensed soot particles originating in the acetylene pyrolysis behind the reflected shock wave front in the temperature range 1700–3800 K are presented. The pyrolysis was investigated by the laser light extinction method and the emission of the intermediate radical C2. Based on the measurements made, the temperature profiles of the induction time of soot inception are obtained. The dependence of the soot particles yield on temperature for the 2% C2H2 + 98% Ar mixture that has a bell shape with a characteristic width of 300 K is determined. The maximum yield value is observed at a temperature of 2000–2200 K. Based on the analysis of deposited substance carried out with the aid of an electron microscope it has been established that the main component of the solid phase structure in the pyrolysis of studied hydrocarbons is finely dispersed carbon with a predominantly amorphous structure. It is shown that the size of particles from 20 to 60 nm in all of the samples investigated obeys log-normal distribution.
