ABSTRACT

An approach to synthesis of structural layouts of aircraft components is developed. It is based on the combined use of topology optimization, engineer interpretation, and the global−local method of sizing optimization. The approach allows including strength, aeroelasticity, and buckling requirements altogether in a unified design procedure to obtain the optimal structure. An example of the structural design of an advanced high-speed helicopter wing is presented.
