Endothelial Monocyte Activating Peptide II: Serum Levels in Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus

ABSTRACT

We examined the content of endothelial monocyte activating peptide II (EMAP-II) in the serum and endothelium-dependent dilation in type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM), as well as a possible link between these indicators in the surveyed subjects. Increased serum content of EMAP-II and weakening of endothelium-dependent dilation have been revealed. The content of the peptide correlated directly with the content of glycated hemoglobin, blood glucose, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein, triglycerides, and inversely − with the content of high density lipoproteins and endothelium-dependent dilation. Elevated level of EMAP-II may reflect endothelial dysfunction in type 1 diabetes mellitus, and changes in carbohydrate and lipid metabolism may affect the development of detected disorders.
