Insulin Resistance and Physical Performance in Middle Aged and Elderly People
摘要
In 43 people of middle and elderly age without obesity (body mass index was less than thirty kg/m2), we studied the relationship between insulin resistance (IR) and physical performance. It has been shown that in healthy elderly people IR was associated with a moderate increase in insulin content and a small increase in glucose in the blood plasma. In people of middle age, IR did not affect the parameters of physical performance. At the same time, IR in the elderly people was accompanied by a decrease in physical performance due to less economical hemodynamic support of the physical exercise and oxygen consumption. A lower exercise tolerance in elderly people without obesity can be considered not only as a risk factor for IR development, but also as its consequence.
