DIRECT DIGITAL FREQUENCY SYNTHESIZERS: POTENTIALITIES AND LIMITATIONS FOR MICROWAVE SPECTROSCOPY APPLICATIONS

摘要

Based on the analysis of transient processes in phase-locked loop systems it is shown that direct digital frequency synthesizers can be used for constructing wide-range fast frequency scan spectrometers. The rate of recording molecular spectra in this case can be comparable with that provided by the FASSST spectrometer. The waveform and duration of the transient processes make it possible to implement a highly accurate frequency modulation which in turn allows minimizing distortion in the spectral line shape, and hence minimizing the frequency determination error. At the same time, the direct digital frequency synthesizers offer no advantage being applied to spectroscopy of coherent spontaneous emission.
