ABSTRACT

In recent years, the sizing of the turbine designs, which are representing the working principles of the hydroelectric power plants, by doing flow calculations before their production has been possible to be performed through cost effective, time saving and reliable computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software. In this study, the effects of the variation of the angles of the wicket gate in Francis type turbine, of which working principles are known, on power of the turbine was identified by CFD analysis. It was aimed to determine the optimum angle of the wicket gate by performing flow analysis for 16 different angles (12 to 48°) in a model of a Francis type turbine, which was prepared in accord to the working principles identified in ANSYS software with high reliability.
