ORDERED NANOSTRUCTURED CARBONS, NCCR-41 AND CMK-3: SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION, AND HYDROGEN SORPTION STUDIES
摘要
Ordered mesoporous carbons NCCR-41 and CMK-3 were prepared using mesoporous silica hard templates, MCM-41 and SBA-15, respectively, employing acidified sucrose as carbon precursor. All samples were systematically characterized by analytical, spectroscopic, and imaging techniques. The prepared high surface area mesoporous carbons were subjected to hydrogen sorption measurements at –196°C in the pressure range of 0–20 bar. The results showed maximum hydrogen storage capacities of 1.5 wt% and 2.3 wt% at 20 bar hydrogen pressure, for CMK-3 and NCCR-41, respectively, which is in good agreement with hydrogen sorption capacity as a function of pore size and surface area. Further, the sorption data were analyzed in correlation with structural properties and textural characteristics. It was observed that smaller pores with a diameter less than 1 nm contribute greatly to the hydrogen uptake, suggesting that such small pores are more effective in combination with larger pores for hydrogen uptake.
