摘要

Various treatments have been suggested for the treatment of adult oropharyngeal dysphagia. Treatment options range from diet modification to behavioral treatment and tube feeding. There has been a gradual evolution in the literature from case-series studies to more evidence-based controlled studies that have assessed the effectiveness and outcomes of specific rehabilitation techniques or strategies. As a result, various functional scales have been suggested to measure treatment effectiveness or outcomes. This article critically reviews the literature concerning rehabilitation techniques and programs developed for adult oropharyngeal dysphagia. It appears that more effort needs to be made to improve the quality of the studies undertaken to demonstrate the efficacy of current and future therapies more scientifically.
