Studies on the Genera Jolyna Guimarães and Rosenvingea Børgesen (Scytosiphonales) from Coastal Waters of Karachi (Pakistan)
摘要
During a large survey of various coastal areas of Karachi (Pakistan) in the northern Arabian Sea, carried out from September 1989 to October 1993, thalloid and epilithic species of the brown algal genera Jolyna and Rosenvingea were collected. Herbarium specimens of the previous collections made during February 1956 and February 1970 were also utilized. As a result of taxonomic investigation of the collected specimens four foliose and tubular species were identified. They included Jolyna laminarioides Guimarães, Rosevingea intricata (J. Agardh) Børgesen, R. orientalis (J. Agardh) Børgesen and R. sanctae-crucis Børgesen, which were examined in detailed for their morphology, anatomy, and reproduction. Among them, R. intricata and R. sanctae-crucis have been taxonomically described for the first time from the seashore of Pakistan.
