The experiments were conducted in a towing tank. The formation and evolution processes of the vortex system on the suction surface were observed and analyzed by streak pictures of particle images. Four characteristic vortex evolution processes were identified on the domain of angle of attack and chord Reynolds number. The PIV technique was employed to capture the history of the vortical structures. The evolution processes of the streamline patterns, vorticities, traveling paths of vortices, velocities of vortex center, etc. were presented. Stable vortex shedding was eventually established in the wake after complex vortex evolution process of different modes was discussed.
