T1 COMBINED EFFECT OF THERMAL DISPERSION AND VARIABLE VISCOSITY OF NON-DARCY CONVECTION HEAT TRANSFER IN A FLUID-SATURATED POROUS MEDIUM JF Journal of Porous Media JO JPM YR 2013 FD 2013-04-29 VO 16 IS 5 SP 471 OP 482 K1 porous medium K1 thermal dispersion K1 convection heat transfer K1 variable viscosity K1 non-Darcy AB In this paper, the effects of thermal dispersion and variable viscosity on the non-Darcy free, mixed, and forced convection heat transfer along a vertical flat plate embedded in a fluid-saturated porous medium are investigated. Forchheimer extension is employed in the flow equation to express the non-Darcy model. The fluid viscosity varies as an inverse linear function of temperature. The coefficient of thermal diffusivity has been assumed to be the sum of the molecular diffusivity and the dynamic diffusivity due to mechanical dispersion. Similarity solutions of the governing equations, for an isothermally heated plate, are obtained. Effects of the physical parameters, which govern the problem, on the rate of heat transfer in terms of Nusselt number, the slip velocity, and the boundary layer thickness, for the two cases Darcy and non-Darcy, are shown on graphs or entered in tables.
