The effect of a 1.5 to 2 order of magnitude increase in the diffractional Q-factor for the fundamental mode has been detected and investigated, which can be produced by conductive insertions of a sufficiently large diameter to allocate and provide for cooling of active elements in the open resonant cavity. A possibility is shown for the open resonator with two conductive insertions to be adjusted over a wide frequency range, while retaining the fundamental mode. Results of the electromagnetic modeling are compared with measurements. %8 2006-05-01
