A magnetic quadrupole field acting on the air can drive its spanwise flow, and eight longitudinal vortices can consequently form. The velocity and temperature fields as well as the Nusselt numbers are all presented for fully developed flows at Reynolds numbers between 200 and 2000 by application of the magnetic quadrupole field. The field coordination number is used to evaluate the enhancement of convection heat transfer and shows that the longitudinal vortices can improve the coordination between the velocity and temperature fields, which results in the enhancement of heat transfer process. %8 2004-11-04
