Abstract

Based on the experimental results of mixture fraction (scalar) and its rms fluctuations in confined coaxial flows in the regime with a recirculation zone, scalar statistical moments (up to 4 orders) and one-point scalar probability density functions (PDFs) at different distances from a mixer nozzle are analyzed. It is shown that high moments are indicative for detailed information about a scalar homogeneous field to be formed. Comparison of the experimental and analytical PDFs reveals an essential disagreement for the large-intermittence flow region.
