Abstract

The capability of large-eddy simulation LES to predict heat transfer (Prandtl number Pr = 0.7) in a high Reynolds number complex flow is investigated by considering a turbulent boundary layer disturbed by a detached obstacle. The upcoming momentum Reynolds number is Reθ = 5000, while the Reynolds number based on the windward length is Rec = 4300. The LES simulation uses a dynamic subgrid-scale SGS model and a standard law of the wall. The results compared to the existing experimental data are in good agreement. The solution captures correctly the vortex shedding phenomena and the near wall vortices. Furthermore, the washing action mechanism is identified as responsible for heat transfer variation downstream the obstacle, where a dissimilarity between heat and momentum transfer is observed.
