Experimental study of impinging turbulent round jet flow on a square cylinder laid on a flat plate
摘要
A turbulent axisymmetric air jet impinging on a square cylinder mounted on a flat plate was studied experimentally. Turbulence statistics, flow's topology and convection heat transfer characteristics when uniform heat flux was imposed in the test plate were investigated using infrared thermography, particle image velocimetry and by flow visualization using fluorescent dye. The jet from a long round pipe, 75 pipe diameters in length, at Reynolds number of 23 000, impinged vertically on the square cylinder (3D×3D×43D). The flow's topology demonstrated a three-dimensional recirculation and a presence of foci on the bottom wall near the corner. The influence of these flow's structures on heat transfer is examined. The origin of the secondary peak in heat transfer coefficient distribution on the top wall of the cylinder can be attributed to very pronounced shear production coupled with the external turbulence coming from the free jet.
