Artificial Turbulence of Carrier Flow in Rectangular Ducts with Ridges and Grooves of Tubular Plate Heat Exchange Surfaces

Abstract

Systematic experimental investigation of convective heat transfer enhancement was implemented in the short rectangular ducts with cross ridges and grooves of 31 tubular plate heat exchange surfaces with the values determining geometrical parameters l/d = 0.183...1.695 and d*/d = 0.748...0.953. The process of rational heat transfer convective enhancement is realized in heat exchange surfaces and determined by relation (Nu/Nusm)Re=idem/(ζ/ζsm)Re=idem ≥ 1 and it is reliably controlled by the values change of specified geometrical parameters. It is shown that assessment of rational enhancement of heat exchange for rectangular short ducts with cross ridges and grooves is slightly lower than for long ducts of the same type: (Nu/Nusm)max = 1.38. Obtained results prove the possibility to decrease the volume and mass of heat exchanger cores, operating in the regimes K ≈ αmin, to about 1.38 times in comparison with their smooth duct analogues other things being equal.
