For the development of a highly accurate subgrid scale (SGS) combustion model for turbulent premixed flames large eddy simulation (LES) of a hydrogen-air turbulent jet premixed flam is conducted using a fractal dynamic SGS (FDSGS) combustion model. The accuracy of the model is evaluated from the comparison of LES results with a direct numerical simulation (DNS) data. The FDSGS combustion model accurately predicts the Kolmogorov length. Although the fractal dimensions of flam surfaces are underpredicted, mean flam front positions obtained from the LES with the model agree well with the filtere DNS data. From comparison with conventional SGS combustion models, it is shown that the FDSGS combustion model and the models of Colin et al. and Chatakonda et al. give better predictions of r.m.s. values of progress variable fluctuatio than the other conventional models in the conditions of the present study.
