摘要

Fire curtains are successfully used for a limitation of a smoke spread in public and industrial buildings. But the analysis of scientific literature and consultations with Russian and foreign specialists doesn't allow to make a conclusion about expediency or non-expediency of fire curtains use in road tunnels. This paper describes the results of numerical experiment carried out for solving this question. The time of blockading of the evacuation ways with hazardous factors of fire was used as a criterion of fire curtain effectiveness. The following hazardous factors were taken into account: loss of visibility, high temperature, heat flux and concentration of carbon monoxide. The results of simulation show that fire curtains not only don't increase the time of blockading of evacuation ways but even worsen a situation in road tunnels from the point of view of evacuation and rescue of people.
