摘要

The local control of quenching conditions within heat treatment processes can be utilized for process optimization. Key parameters of metallic specimen properties to control are surface hardness and workpiece distortion. This potential is given by means of adjustable flow fields on the basis of jet arrays for generating impinging turbulent jet flows of the quenching media. With the use of adapted jet fields, specific asymmetric quenching conditions for controlled heat treatment processes can be realized. This process has been originally developed for gaseous flow, but by controlled quenching in liquid media like water or hardening oil the heat transfer process can be intensified. Within the liquid quenching process the control of the boiling phases and the establishing of the rewetting front on the workpiece surface are decisive to control the quenching behaviour of the specimen.
