INTERACTION OF ARTIFICIAL DNA-LIKE STRUCTURES IN THE MICROWAVE RANGE: POLARIZATION SELECTIVITY OF WAVE REFLECTION

ABSTRAKT

Study of polarization properties of DNA was chosen as one of primarily important in connection with asymmetry of the shape of DNA. The preliminary theoretical calculation showed that the shape of DNA is optimal for formation of a circularly polarized electromagnetic wave under the assumption of resonance (λ ~ 10 nm). The experimental study conducted according to the electrodynamic similarity principle for metallic DNA-like helices in the microwave range confirmed this conclusion. The presence of effect of polarization selectivity in the case of double reflection of microwaves from DNA-like helical elements depending on their sign (right- and left-handed helices) is experimentally confirmed in the study. The circular polarization of waves is shown to play an important role in the case of interaction of artificial DNA-like structures in the microwave range. It is possible that an identical effect occurs during some processes with participation of DNA in cells of biological organisms in the far ultraviolet or "soft" X-ray range.
