RESONANCE PROPERTIES OF A PLANAR METAMATERIAL FORMED BY AN ARRAY OF ROSETTES ON A NON-MAGNETIZED FERRODIELECTRIC SUBSTRATE

ABSTRAKT

Chiral structures are of interest both for fundamental physics, where they may prove useful in modeling the propagation of electromagnetic waves or elemental excitations in condensed media (either crystalline or amorphous), and for applications. The structures might be highly promising for the design of compact-sized, magnetically controlled microwave devices. Meanwhile, the amount of experimental investigations of metamaterials at millimeter wavelengths (which range is of particular importance today in view of its applications) seems dramatically insufficient. The present paper suggests a study of resonance electrodynamic properties of a planar metamaterial represented by an array of metal, plane chiral rosettes lying on a non-magnetized ferrite substrate. Experimental and theoretical frequency dependences of the transmission coefficient have been obtained for a few values of the structure’s spatial period. The resonant peak frequency of the transmission coefficient has been analyzed in dependence on the period magnitude. The experimentally measured and the theoretical data are subjected to joint analysis. The results may find application in the field of telecommunications and microwave or antenna technologies (for example, in the design of filters, polarizers, directional couplers, etc.)
