OPTIMIZATION OF A SOUNDING ULTRA WIDE-BAND (UWD) PULSED SIGNAL IN SUBSURFACE OBJECT DETECTION
ABSTRAKT
The cylindrical pulse-modulated EM wave diffraction by conductive cylindrical objects immersed in dielectric media of differing conductivity is examined through computer-aided implementation of the finite-difference time-domain method (FDTD). The scattered EM fields calculated at different values of an incident pulse duration and varying distances between field source, an observation point and an interface are analyzed and compared. A technique for determining the ultra-wide-band pulse sounding signal duration said to be optimal for detecting subsurface objects is proposed. Besides, the contrast of the signal returned by an object in relation to the full (total) signal at an observation point is chosen as an optimization criterion.
