Ti−Nb POWDER ALLOYS IN THE ADDITIVE TECHNOLOGIES

ABSTRAKT

The Ti–Nb powder alloy with mass content of 40% and 45% Nb was obtained from Ti and Nb powder mixture in a planetary ball mill in an argon atmosphere. The structure, grain-size distribution, and phase composition of the powder alloy obtained are determined by the time of mechanical alloying. With increase in the alloying time from 3 to 20 min, the average size of the particles formed increases from 41 to 67 μm and then decreases twice at the 25th min of alloying. The shape of the particles changes from shells to pellets. With increase in the alloying time, the quantity of the total solid solution of Ti and Nb components increases in the alloy. A monophase β-alloy is formed in the powder alloy containing 40 wt.% of Nb at alloying time of 20 min. A monophase β-alloy is formed in the powder alloy with 45 wt.% of Nb at alloying time of 15 min. Composition with the 45 wt.% Nb obtained at 15 min alloying time is recommended for using the powder alloy in the process of selective laser melting. Optimization of the powder alloy grain-size distribution obtained requires the sieving of the powder large fraction.
