PARAMETRIC INVESTIGATION OF SUPERSONIC COMBUSTION OF SOLID FUELS

ABSTRAKT

An experimental investigation of a solid fuel scramjet combustor was aimed at determining the combustion characteristics of different types of solid fuels. In particular, comparison was made between the results from a fuel-rich solid propellant (60% hydroxyl-terminated-polybutadiene HTPB and 40% ammonium perchlorate AP) vs. those of a polymethyl-methacrylate PMMA fuel. While born fuels exhibited a similar general behavior, the PMMA fuel showed a better flameholding capability, while the HTPB/AP fuel-rich propellant yielded a much higher regression rate.
