ABSTRAKT
The process of sulfate reduction in bottom sediments was studied in the Volga reservoirs and in Lake Nero. It has been found that in the places of industrial and household sewage release the intensity of this process increased. The maximal rate of sulfate reduction (143.6 mg S/(kg·day) and the maximal numbers of sulfate reducing bacteria (10 million cells/g) were observed in the Sheksna stretch of the Rybinsk Reservoir near the town of Cherepovets.
