1/f Fluctuations in Boiling Crisis
ABSTRAKT
The dynamics of fluctuations in transition from nucleate to film boiling of water on a wire heater, in transition of droplets of water, pentane, and hexane to a spheroidal state on a hot surface, as well as at the discharge of superheated liquid jets from a highpressure vessel has been studied experimentally. It has been found that for a heat-transfer crisis during the change of boiling regimes and for intense pool boiling-up of the superheated liquid jet, the power spectrum of fluctuations has a lowfrequency component (flicker noise) that diverges under the 1/f law. This effect is attributed to non-equilibrium phase transitions in the system: the heattransfer crisis during transition from nucleate to film boiling and the flow crisis at the boiling-up of the superheated liquid jet.
