ABSTRAKT

The problem of coupled two-dimensional heat and mass transfers during the desorption phenomenon of the grains of zeolite 13X within a plane adsorber is outlined. The present study is carried out using the Darcy flow model. The local thermal equilibrium assumption is assumed. The porous medium, with uniform porosity, is assumed to be homogeneous and its thermal and mechanical properties anisotropic. The water vapor is considered as a perfect gas, the compression work and viscous dissipation are negligible. The set of governing equations along with the appropriate boundary conditions are solved numerically by the classical finite volume method. Excellent agreement was obtained between the present results and these from previous published works, which validates the computer code used. The results show that the aspect ratio of the adsorber has an important effect on the sorption phenomena for low values of these rations. No effect on the sorption time as well as on the quantity of the adsorbed mass of gas is observed for aspect ratio values higher than 10. Besides, the two faces heating process decreases the time of desorption by a factor 2. In addition, thermal and hydraulic anisotropy effects on heat and mass transfers are discussed.
