SORET EFFECT ON FREE CONVECTION FROM A MELTING VERTICAL SURFACE IN A NON-DARCY POROUS MEDIUM
ABSTRAKT
This paper investigates the influence of the effect of variable viscosity and Soret effect on natural convection heat transfer from a vertical flat plate in a non-Darcy porous medium saturated with Newtonian fluid of variable viscosity. The wall and the ambient medium are maintained at constant but different levels of temperature and concentration. The viscosity of the fluid is assumed to follow the Reynolds viscosity model. A similarity solution for the transformed governing equations is obtained and computation is carried out for various values of the nondimensional physical parameters. The variation in temperature and concentration distributions, heat and mass transfer coefficients with melting parameter, Soret parameter, viscosity parameter, buoyancy ratio, and Lewis number is discussed for a wide range of values of these parameters.
