HEAT TRANSFER IN PLATE HEAT EXCHANGERS IN THE TRANSITION FLOW REGIME

ABSTRAKT

Plate heat exchangers (PHEs) are widespread in different technical fields, namely, in energetics, chemical industries, the food industry, and others. For the correlation of data for the heat transfer in the PHE, usually the following equation is used:
Nu = CRenPrm(μ/μwall)χ (1)
For the calculation of exponent n in Eq. (1), commonly a kind of Wilson's plot method is used. To get suitable precision sometimes a large enough relation Remax/Remin is required. Some remarks to this subject are shown in this work. But the greater the necessity for the Reynolds number area [Remin, Remax], the greater the chance that the experimental data reaches a transitional area between laminar and turbulent areas. In this transitional area the exponent n changes very strongly, and it cannot be considered as a constant. As a solution, in this work an empirical correlation for the dependence n(Re) is suggested.
