High Performance Augmentations for Refrigeration System Evaporators and Condensers
ABSTRAKT
Parametric studies were undertaken for heat transfer augmentations utilized in evaporators and condensers in refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat pump systems. For chilled water flowing inside tubes, ribbed tubes are shown to provide the best thermal to hydraulic performance ratio. For chilled water flowing over tube bundles, external integral low finned tubes are shown to be very advantageous relative to plain tubes. For refrigerant R 134a, the simulations show that certain microfinned tube geometries are superior for intube evaporation and condensation. For flooded ammonia chillers, external low finned tubes for augmenting boiling and internal fins for augmenting heat transfer to the chilled water are shown to be very effective.
