THE EFFECT OF BAFFLE-TUBE LEAKAGE ON THE LOCAL MASS AND HEAT TRANSFER IN THE SHELL SIDE OF SHELL-AND-TUBE HEAT EXCHANGERS

ABSTRAKT

A mass transfer measuring method based on absorption, chemical, and coupled color reaction was used to visualize and determine the local heat and mass transfer coefficients. The effect of the leakage through the baffle-tube clearance on the shell-side flow and transport phenomena was investigated. Through an optimization of the baffle-tube clearance, the pressure drop can be remarkably reduced; at the same time, the mass and heat transfer coefficients have almost no change. A systematic analysis of the influence of such leakage on the shell-side pressure drop and the local mass and heat transfer coefficients are presented.
