INFLUENCE OF AFTERBODY GEOMETRY ON THE ROLLING UP OF SHEAR LAYERS

ABSTRAKT
In this report, the influence of the afterbody geometry of bluff bodies on the shear layer separation, reattachment, and the rolling-up process of the shear layer is studied using flow visualization. The afterbody geometries considered are rectangular, curved (semicircular and elliptic), and triangular shapes. In each case the length-to-width (l/b) ratio is systematically varied. It is seen that the relative influence of the geometries depend on the l/b ratio and not only the near wake, but also the wake region beyond can be affected by the afterbody shapes.
