ABSTRAKT

The paper describes the effect of a protective coating on the temperature field distribution in a revolving cutting insert. The paper also presents the study of wear resistance of cutting tools subjected to industrial loads in the course of machining. Modeling the steady-state thermal field distribution in the cutting tool was performed by means of the 2D finite elements method (FEM). It was established that the main reduction of the cutting temperature in the case of a coated cutting insert is due to the reduction of the thermal flow from friction in the contact zone.
