A DESCRIPTION OF THE DROPLET SPECTRA PRODUCED BY A FLAT-FAN NOZZLE

ABSTRAKT

The droplet spectra of a TeeJet XR8003VS flat-fan nozzle were determined with respect to various size parameters and the vertical component of the drop velocity (m/s). Measurements were taken at nine 5-cm intervals along half the long axis and at twenty-five 1-cm intervals across the entire short axis of the spray cloud, 30 cm below the nozzle, using an Aerometrics PDPA-100 1D phase/Doppler particle measuring system. The study was initiated to determine an optimum means of assessing spray clouds from agricultural flat-fan nozzles using the PDPA particle sizing system. The results show that a single long traverse of the long (x axis) of the spray cloud is the closest approximation to a complete assessment of the entire spray cloud, and that accurate positioning of the nozzle prior to measurements is important. The results also may be of use in modeling spray clouds under agricultural booms.
