CRFD STUDIES FOR BOILERS FIRED WITH HIGH ASH CONTAINING AND SLAGGING LIGNITES
ABSTRAKT
In the following, two studies of lignite-fired boilers will be described. Both studies were performed via computational reactive fluid dynamics (CRFD) analyses. The first study is about a plant to be fired with Greek lignite and with an electrical power plant output of 330 MW. For the combustion chamber, a computational reactive fluid dynamics study was performed considering the fluid flow, combustion, heat release, and heat transfer. The CRFD results were used as an input for a CFD (computational fluid dynamics) analysis of the convective heating bundles of the upper part of the tower boiler unit. Therefore, the heat transfer in the heating surfaces was considered and thus a fully three-dimensional analysis of the flow fluid, temperature, and the pattern of particulate matter was done. The aim was to detect any possible problematic areas that are prone to erosion.
In the other study described in this paper, an advanced lignite-fired concept based on a dry lignite to be fired in a 950 MW steam generator unit is investigated. The basis of the study was German lignite with a typical moisture content of more than 50%. This raw lignite is dried in a preparation step at a low temperature level. With this concept, the plant efficiency can be improved significantly. The performance of this dry lignite firing system was investigated in terms of the slagging behavior and compared to a conventional raw lignite firing system.
