Involvement of Some Subtypes of 5-HT2-Receptors in Affective Behavior in Female Rats

ABSTRAKT

The present work was devoted to a comparative analysis of the contribution of 5-HT2 receptors to the mechanisms of anxiety and depressive-like behavior under natural cyclical fluctuations in the content of sexual hormones in adult female rats. Effects of chronic administration of m-CPP, 5-HT2B2C receptor agonist (0.5 mg/kg, i.p) and ketanserine, 5-HT2A2C receptor antagonist (0.1 mg/kg, i.p) for 14 days, on the anxiety and depressive-like behavior were studied in adult female rats. It has been shown that chronic ketanserine administration rendered antidepressant and anxiolytic effects in females during estrous and proestrous phases. Administration of m-CPP also resulted in antidepressant effect in those phases. In particular, distinct modulation of anxiety behavior depending on the rat ovarian cycle phases was observed. The results obtained suggest that different subtypes of 5-HT receptors contribute to the mechanisms of anxiety and depressive-like behavior at alterations of hormonal balance during the ovarian cycle. They indicate a close interaction of the ovarian, hormonal and serotonergic systems of the brain in mechanisms of anxiety and depression.
