Effect of L-Arginine on Oxygen Balance of the Liver and the Bile Secretion Function

ABSTRAKT

In acute experiments on anesthetized rats, L-arginine has been shown to enhance oxygen-dependent synthetic processes in the liver, particularly those associated with mitochondrial polyenzyme systems of the bile acid biosynthesis, with simultaneous activation of hepatocyte tissue respiration. At that, the level of oxygen tension in the gland liver remains unchanged. Nitric oxide contributes only partly to implementation of these effects. Moreover, L-arginine inhibits cholepoiesis choleresis without involving NO to the reaction. Dose-dependent effect of L-arginine on the bile cholates content may indicate a different effect of the amino acid on metabolic transformation of bile acids such as hydroxylation and conjugation.
