Theoretical Determination of Spray Drop Size Distributions
Part 2: Applications
ABSTRAKT
The procedure to predict drop size distributions, described in the first part of this paper, is tested on two different types of injector, namely, pressure swirl atomizer and low pressure pintle-type injectors. In each case, the linear theory is applied and the resulting theoretical drop diameter is introduced as information in the Maximum Entropy Formalism. Comparisons between calculated and measured volume-based drop size distributions show the relevance of the procedure. Each time, position of maximum and distribution width are satisfactorily predicted. Furthermore, it is found that within specific range of working conditions, the parameter required by the formalism is constant. The procedure becomes then autonomous and requires no experimental input to make predictions.
