Addition to the flora of Euglenophyta of Israel

A brief survey of literature and original data on the study of species composition of Euglenophyta in water bodies of Israel is given. In Israel, 61 species of Euglenophyta represented by 73 varieties and forms (including those that contain the nomenclature! type of the species) are found. They belong to the class Euglenophyceae, two orders (Euglenales, Peranematales), four families (Euglenaceae, Menoidiaceae, Peranemataceae, Petalomonadaceae), and nine genera. Euglenaceae (98.5 % of infraspeciflc taxa found), and genera Euglena Ehr. (39.8 %) and Phacus Duj. (31.5 %) are most diverse in their species composition. Eight species (10 infraspeciflc taxa) of the genera Euglena (4 species), Phacus - 3, Lepocinclis - 1 (3) are recorded from Israel for the first time. The most widespread species in the water bodies of Israel are Trachelomonas volvocina Ehr., T. hispida (Perty) Stein, Euglena acus Ehr., E. caudata Hübn., E. texta (Duj.) Hübn., Phacus caudatus Hübn., P. longicauda (Ehr.) Duj. and Lepocinclis ovum (Ehr.) Lemm. Widely distributed species with pluriregional (50 %) and Eurasian (13.1 %) types of distribution form the core of the flora of Euglenophyta of Israel.
